In the Vicinity of Miracles

Quite a strange contradiction, one that keeps me up at nights

Am I the only one on earth who cannot find the light?

I watch the people move about and get on with their lives

Boys becoming husbands, girls becoming wives

Am I the strange one?

Different from the rest?

Is that a bad thing?

In the vicinity of miracles, we step into the night

The voices inside my head are telling me to wait

Telling me to pause before I step into my fate

But if we let the time we have, be ruled by doubt and fear

We’ll lose the things we care about, the things that we hold dear

Am I the strange one?

Different from the crowd?

Who decides normal?

In the vicinity of miracles, we step into the light

Am I the strange one?

Going my own way

The guardian of secrets

In the vicinity of miracles, we step into the light

Sitting with the Pain

Cloudy day, the rain is steady on the window pane

Crying glass, streaks of yesterday

A sad refrain, all alone and sitting with the pain

If I dial, will she be the one who takes the call?

Or someone else, picking up the phone?

So I refrain, all alone and sitting with the pain

Wondering where she is today

Sipping coffee in Calais?

What I had in mind was far more risqué

What if we had run away?

Talking to a photograph

Maybe God will have a laugh

All the moments that we maybe could have had

Tender moments under glass

Since the day I let her walk away, and there’s my heart

here and there, in pieces on the ground

I go insane

All alone and sitting with the pain

Feel the Wind Blow

I met you at a crossroads, the innocence of youth

When everything is special, everything is truth

Tomorrow will be forever, in beauty and in grace

We take our first steps down the path

To try and find our pace

And feel the wind blow

You walked into the room that day and took my breath away

I tried hard to be subtle, a clever thing to say

And later when we said goodbye, I knew it meant hello

A change was set in motion for everything we know

Fell the wind blow

And after that beginning, we set on different paths

Me, to write the perfect song, and you to foreign lands

But the wind is always present, it blows in from the past

And sometimes from the future, if something’s meant to last

So, what about tomorrow and everything it brings?

Time will sort the madness out and leave the things you know

Feel the wind blow

The Door

It’s crowded in the bar tonight, soft hearts and circumstance

Mingling in the waning light, love hasn’t got a chance

The room is filled with bad decisions, dressed up for success

But these are broken-hearted people, settling for less

If they want more, open the door.

And there amid confusion, across the room he sees

Something like an honest heart, something to believe

He’ll take the first step willingly, perhaps for evermore

But has he got the courage to walk right through the door?

If he wants more, open the door.

Love’s an endless caldron of which we never tire

But fate does as it pleases, regardless of desire

Life is sometimes lacking, wishing something more

But if you want the best of it, you’ll walk right through the door

If you want more, open the door

Walk the floor, open the door

Go explore, open the door

All You Gotta Do

When memories crowd away the sunshine of the day

When you’re feeling kind of blue

Know that I’m here when you’re ready to return

That’s all you gotta do

The world is scary, the walls are closing in

There’s things you gotta prove

As long as when I see you, you’ll smile for me again

That’s all you gotta do

Sometimes journeys are better on our own

Let the wind blow through your hair

Just remember who’s waiting here at home

And that I’ll always be there

Make a promise and look into my eyes

and own the feeling in your heart

Sometimes love reveals the who of who we are

but it’s only just a part

So go away, and leave me on my own

Do the things you gotta do

As long as I know you’ll come back home to me

That’s all you gotta do

That’s all you have to do

Dance with Me

Morning brings a stillness of another day ahead

You’ll fill it with your memories of all the lives you’ve led

No one else can understand the hurt that you’ve been through

No one else can see inside that damaged part of you

So you wrap your arms around yourself and dig yourself a moat

But problems fly right over it and you’re left to walk the road

that leads right back to loneliness, that feeds upon itself

Until you find it overcrowded on your problem shelf

All the miles

They teach us how to tough it out and smile

When everything’s undone

But all the while

I’ve been out there too and maybe now

You’ll take a chance with me.

With the many days behind us, this may be our last chance

To find a heart between us, unlikely true romance

I know you may be frightened to trust in love again

But maybe what you’re seeking is a lover, and a friend

I’ll have your back when times are tough and calm the pounding surf

And if you give me half a chance I’ll show you what I’m worth

As daylight turns to evening, the ending of our days

I’ll be the one who’ll be there, I’ll be the one who stays

All the miles

They teach us how to tough it out and smile

When everything’s undone

All the while

I’ve been out there too and maybe now

You’ll take a chance with me

You’ll come and dance with me

Any Other Way

The rhythm of the driving rain, on a hot mid-summer night

And in the flash of thunder, a kiss turns to a bite

In the game of romance, we found a place to play

Right then, right now

And all throughout the day

In a heaven full of wonder, your star is always bright

I find you in a crowded room, shining like a light

We sometimes don’t see eye to eye

But that’s all right with me

I know I can depend on you, my harbor by the sea

Cause all the most important things, they happen right away

First touch, first kiss, first secrets that we say

My love for you grows stronger, each and every day

And I wouldn’t want it any other way

The many miles between us, when one becomes a two

They just seem to melt away when I come home to you

Each time I see your sunshine face

Your smile blooms like a rose

I’m back within your arms again; forever, I propose

Cause all the most important things, they happen right away

First laugh, first love, first time we went astray

But my love for you grows stronger, each and every day

And I wouldn’t want it any other way

And I wouldn’t have it any other way

My Brother’s Song

You made everybody smile and always stayed in time

The rhythm of your life, where everything was fine

But the quiet of the night left you desperately alone

Have you found the peace you sought, now that you are gone?

We’re all searching for an answer, a light to show the way

To cope with all our troubles and get us through the day

In the glow of setting sun, as the earth reclaims our souls

Rest easy now my friend and put aside your woes

No fences left to mend, just leave it all undone

Rest easy now my friend, for now your work is done

You left before the dawn and never said goodbye

You didn’t give me time, to mourn you or to cry

What’s left is empty anger, you left me on my own

But now I can forgive you, to miss you, and move on

We’re all searching for an answer, a light to show the way

To cope with all our troubles and get us through the day

In the glow of setting sun, as the earth reclaims our souls

Rest easy now my friend and put aside your woes

No fences left to mend, just leave it all undone

Rest east now my friend, for now your work is done
