Follow any freeway
Come and make it out today
Put it on the layaway
Radio up all the way
It’s another perfect day
I’m not hearing what you say

Destination
Madelina
© Greg Smith and Rich Krents
Early in the morning sheets begin to rustle as the day begins
Wake up, get up, shirt and tie and coffee, on your way again
No sock, can’t stop, bus stop, crowd among the morning herd
Right there, blond hair, your stare, all without a single word
Madelina, I knew we’d be together from the start
Madelina, you found a way to open up my heart
You thought you’d never be the one
And now you think you’ve seen the sun
Madelina, Madelina
Full stop, your stop, snap to, out of your waking dream
Fall out, punch in, two cups, back at your desk again
Tune in, quotas, done deals, focus your thoughts and then
Into your mind you’ll find she’s come back again
Madelina, I knew we’d be together from the start
Madelina, you found a way to open up my heart
You thought you’d never be the one
And now you think you’ve seen the sun
Madelina, Madelina
Wake up and find yourself alone
It’s just the ringing of the phone
And they’re just faces on the wall
They’re telling you to make the call
Madelina, I knew we’d be together from the start
Madelina, you found a way to open up my heart
You thought you’d never be the one
And now you think you’ve seen the sun
Madelina, Madelina
Steal the Moment
© Greg Smith and Rich Krents
Make adjustments for some overtime
Working hard to get ahead
Feed the circuit, feed the girl a line
Listen hard to what’s she said
And when the music’s over
And they are throwing you out the door
Steal the moment, call attention to something inside you
Steal the moment, enter into a longing, deep inside your heart
Life the storybook you’ve driven for
Settle into what you got
Speak the moans in self-indulgent tones
Squint your eyes, you see a lot
And at the end of the evening
When all the kids have gone to bed
Steal the moment, call attention to something inside you
Steal the moment, enter into a longing, deep inside your heart
Breathe the air of attraction
It’s got a scent your known before
Just trying to get her to crack the door
Steal the moment, call attention to something inside you
Steal the moment, enter into a longing, deep inside your heart
Running Around in My Heart
© Greg Smith
I can see by the flicker
The movement behind your eye
Hard to hold onto, harder not to try
Tell me the truth of your feelings
A simple direct reply
My heart is in your hand, a reason not to lie
See the man, waiting for an answer
Take my hand and come with me to realize our love
Understand you’re inside, you’re wrapped around my soul
Do what you will, you’re running around in my heart
The fire came from within her, deep from within her mind
Of self assurance, among the ties that bind
Nonchalant hesitation, a seeming indifferent air
But I’ve seen thru your walls, I’m crossing over your line
Driving around in the evening
Roaming around the town,
The sound that you hear: the beating of your heart
And what of the gripping inside you, the tightness inside your chest
A feeling I know when we’re apart
See the man, waiting for an answer
Take my hand and come with me to realize our love
Understand you’re inside, you’re wrapped around my soul
Do what you will, you’re running around in my heart
Lives of Desperation
© Greg Smith and Rich Krents
He turned the rusty Kwikset latch a thousand times before
The stubborn turn of deadbolt holding closed the door
Waking from a daydream it chilled him to the core
He picked his hat and coat up laying on the floor
It wasn’t very soon before he drifted back again
A pile of bills was waiting there on the desk inside his den
He didn’t see it coming, crossed the line and then
A polished marble marker is all that’s left of him
We live lives of desperation, living on the edge
We spend the week rehearsing them, on Sundays take the pledge
To do our best to live our lives, as daddy always said
Desperation
Early in the morning, it’s raining hard outside
Children going off to school, it’s mommy’s turn to drive
Good news in the mailbox doesn’t quite arrive
Another busy day ahead and time is passing by
Out behind the market, they’re growing rows of peas
It doesn’t pull in all that much, but it keeps ‘em off their knees
Routine in the household, you just think you see
You never really notice, it’s where you’ll always be
And the love we vowed between us
We had to put on hold
To keep the cupboard crowded
And sheltered from the cold
We live lives of desperation, living on the edge
We spend the week rehearsing them, on Sundays take the pledge
To do our best to live our lives, as daddy always said
Desperation

Thunder rolls along out across the sound
And the feelings that hit me are bordering on the absurd
I think that I’m speaking, I ‘m crying out loud
And I never wanted to know what your fleeing would bring
You’re driving alone
Winding wetness to home
And the rain on your window is
Running along in your mind
Dripping wet
From all of the things
That we said
And I don’t understand
A single thing anymore
Simple feelings become my memory of you
And the sound of the engine is just keeping time with the road
Gripping tight and driving along thru the night
I just can’t believe that you’d go without saying goodbye
You’re driving alone
Winding wetness to home
And the rain on your window is
Running along in your mind
Dripping wet
From all of the things
That we said
And I don’t understand
A single thing anymore
Notion About You
© Greg Smith and Rich Krents
Tangled up in sheets and I can’t find the covers
Learning that love is a mess among lovers
Staring through your coffee with those breakfast eyes
Morning brings a clarity to nighttime lies
But the clouds clear away with a smile and touch that tells me
That this time it won’t be just another boat adrift at sea
I believe you’re in love with me
Come along and we’ll try to be
Drawing out a line between desire and devotion
Come on out and play ‘cause I’ve got a notion about you
Did you ever listen when your father said
“Fools in this paradise are easily led”
Giving into atmosphere, believing the intentions
Winding up inside yourself, a self-made deception
But the trust that you give from the heart makes it clear and very plain
That you gotta take a chance on love, bring those feelings back again
I believe you’re in love with me
Come along and we’ll try to be
Drawing out a line between desire and devotion
Come on out and play ‘cause I’ve got a notion about you
Try Again
© Greg Smith and Rich Krents
Trying to redeem a certain type of feeling that passed you by
You sit and you wonder why, you feel like a fool
Complicated commentary conversation hangs on the telephone
Why are we all alone?
Why don’t we try again?
Fighting over dinner, who becomes the winner in bed tonight?
Part of the marriage rite, never to part
Alliances are broken all upon account of your stubborn pride
Something to set aside
Why don’t we try again?
Face to face on the field of fire, take a stand
Cross a line as the day begins, take my hand
Life becomes averting of love to be a feeling that made you cry
Sit and you wonder why
Pulling up the curtain, always less than certain you’ll be around
Look in you lost and found
If we can try again
Hope on the Horizon
© Greg Smith
Late at night I’m listening
The house is very still
It breathes and moans around us
The moon upon the sill
And now it’s still
You’re sleeping with the rhythm
The clock upon the shelf
The feelings gone between us
You’re keeping to yourself
We fall asleep in anger, we said we’d never do
Three kisses on the forehead, a payment overdue
And now it’s due
What makes us cling so tightly to vanity and pride
Something deep between us, something deep inside
In this world we make a choice
Sometimes it’s well thought out
More often we just hear a voice
And follow it’s advice
I’ve spent my life on someone’s quest,
other than my own
Acting when I thought it best
And looking elsewhere first
And now you’re here beside me
And where are we to go
I thought somehow you’d know
I hope that we will know
There’s always hope on the horizon
Hope on the horizon
Hope, there’s always hope my love,
On the horizon
I thought somehow we’d know
I think that we will know
Destination Too
© Greg Smith
Where are you going?
Do you need a little time all by yourself?
Are you looking for a place to settle down?
Sit in the shadows
And become someone you see inside your head
Maybe an hour’s all you need to make your way along the coast
Flying faster than you’d ever thought you’d go
Figure it out
‘Cause your life is nothing more than who you are
Destination, you’re there
Destination, the wind inside your hair
Destination
What does it matter?
‘Cause you never let the road get in the way
And it takes you to a place you’ve never been
Follow your feeling
Down a line that links the present with the past
Make up a reason
To escape the world you’ve built around yourself
Take the time while there’s still time to slip away
Go with the moment
‘Cause you’ve never know unless you turn the key
Destination, you’re there
Destination, the wind inside your hair
Going here to there
