The Lyrics
I’m Missing You Tonight
A year ago November, Seems so very long ago
I’m trying to remember, the thing that made you go
Was it a changing of the season, or just a change in what we had
I don’t recall the reason, that broke the camel’s back
Drinking my best bourbon, the glow of firelight
Maybe you’ll forgive me, But I’m missing you tonight
They say that I’m not easy, I’m told that I’m headstrong
I thought that’s why you liked me, I guess that I was wrong
I’m sorting thru the aftermath, of our passion and our pain
I stood stand tall on what I knew, I won’t do that again
Some of my best bourbon, in the glow of firelight
Maybe you’ll forgive me, if I’m missing you tonight
I feel the Winter coming on, But Spring corrects the cold
I thought that love would conquer all, and maybe we’d grow old
Another sip of bourbon, I might give up the fight
Another log upon the fire …and I’m missing you tonight.
No Regrets
Do you kiss him, the same way that you kissed me?
Does he hold you, the way we used to do?
Is there a memory, somewhere deep inside you,
Do you remember, when everything was new?
No regrets, we can’t take back the things we said
Seasons change, but love’s supposed to bind
In the quiet, when no one else is watching you
Do you really, leave it all behind?
I’m not asking, what you thought that we went thru
I’m not asking, for pardon or parole.
It just seems like, now that it’s all over,
You’d think there would be, a stain upon my soul.
There’s a river, down below the house I’m in
It passes gently, the present to the past
And I wonder, as it flows by evenly
Does it promise, some things aren’t meant to last?
The Sun Came Up Today
I’m never lonely in the dark, When I’m lying next to you
Somewhere out there coyotes bark, The wind inside the chimney flue
Only an hour or more ’fore dawn, In the still before the fray
I thought about these things, as the sun came up today
The first time that we slept, Your breathing gentle as the rain
You were as safe as you were warm, And would always be the same
Only an hour or two ’fore dawn, In the still before the fray
I thought about these things, as the sun came up today
And in the hour or two ’fore dawn, I knew we’d always be this way
I thought about these things, as the sun came up today
Home Again
Woke up in my childhood home
Thinking ‘bout where I have been
The many roads the many miles,
The memories circle back again…
Like when I took my leave, and took a chance
Walked the fields, of circumstance
But when my world, got small again
I came back home, to where I’ve always been
Once a girl, her name was Sam
As I recall, we met in Birmingham
Built a life, just her and me
Gave ourselves a place to be
But then troubles came, and the clouds rolled in
And the wind blew strong, tore it down again
Left on my own, to find my heart
I went back home, to the place I got my start
They say you can’t go home again
Can’t return to yester-days
But maybe home just ain’t a place
It’s in your heart, or so they say
I came inside out of the storm
The coffee’s on, the bread is warm
Pulled up a chair and eased my mind
You see, I’ve always been the worrying kind
And now I find myself, at my door.
Torn and tattered… just like before
I’ll rest myself, get whole again
For this is home, and where I’ve always been
What If
I thought what if, we could just go back to yesterday
What if we could, unsay the hurtful things we had to say
We’d reset, unlearn the quick reactions and just wait
Let’s try that, rather than us rising to the bait
We’ve walked thru fire, facing down the demons of the day
Just look at me, I’ll tell you that I’m sorry
And then we’ll find, a better way
Once they’re said, words hang in the air like summer rain
Thunder roars, then we’ll see the sun come out again
If we try, we can wash away the anguish and the dark
We can fly, straight into the center of our hearts
And that’s a start
Down in the Valley
The moon was just rising, high up on old Skeenah Ridge
The air hung heavy, as the day gave way to the night
Not far from the border, you could hear the cantinas,
The music so tender and clear
Down in the valley, their chance to get it done right
Katie loved Bradley, tho he didn’t know at the time
He was stumbling through the women in town, two at a time
So she kept her distance, and watched it unfold,
waiting for her turn to dance
Down in the valley leaving the romance to chance
She finally kissed him, high up on old Skeenah Ridge
And they had their dance, the first of so many to come
It’s foolish to rush into love, impatient for what it might be
But down in the valley, making the most of their dance
Down in the valley, leaving the romance to chance
It Doesn’t Have You
Clouds on the horizon, Spreading out along a purple ridge
Steamy rain in parking lots, Someone’s fishing off the Brazos River Bridge
The prairie dogs are gossiping, The winter wheat is flowing in the breeze
Brick red elevators, The baking sun gives way to nightly freeze
Life goes on around me, Even though you’re gone
It’s hard for me to reconcile the two
Cause I thought this town had everything,
But it doesn’t have you
The lowing of the cattle, Negotiations out among the herd
And if I could converse with them, They might not understand a single word
I’d try to tell ‘em ‘bout Sunday morning, The bells ring out and echo in the town
Calling all the sinners home, To cross the River Jordan ‘fore they drown
All the smiling faces, As I walk along these streets
I search their happiness to find a clue
I thought this town had everything,
But it doesn’t have you
These things should make me happy, But there’s a hole inside my heart
I need someone to tell me what to do
Cause I thought this town had everything,
But it doesn’t have you
She’s Everything To Me
She wakes before the sunrise, and gets about her day
She makes herself some coffee, sits down with bills to pay
It won’t be long ‘fore the kids are up, with hungry mouths to feed
She’s all that to everyone, but she’s everything to me
She’s a mama, she’s a muse, she’s a confidant, A girl with hopes and fears
She’s sees the world thru happiness, And sometimes thru her tears
She works two jobs to make ends meet, Then helps some folks in need
She’s all that to everyone, but she’s everything to me
She works on self-improvement, but don’t make it to the gym
She thinks that she is overweight, I think she’s pretty thin
If she could see her like I do, Then she might agree
She may be something else to everyone, but she’s everything to me
We’ve been together thru the years, And weathered thru the change
We’ve seen some couples fall apart, to us that’s kinda strange
If they had a piece of what we’ve got, They might know what I mean
That she may be something else to everyone, but she’s everything to me
You may be something else to everyone
But you’re everything to me.
Can’t Stop What’s Comin’
At the end of a hot and sweaty summer
As the heat gives way to winter’s cold
That’s the time we put away our childhood
Can’t stop what’s coming, can’t stop from growing old
Promise me you’ll always hear my love song
Promise me you’ll always take my call
May come a time, you won’t say yes so quickly
Your options might’not include me after all
Wait, there’s someone coming
Out there in the dark
Or was it just the wind up in the pines?
Let’s be quick as we struggle in the darkness
They’ll be time for love, once the deed is done.
Words don’t have much meaning
We speak in mournful moans
The wounded beasts are circling their kill
Autumn’s here, the leaves are changing color
Glowing bright ‘fore falling down to die
That was the time we put away our childhood
Can’t stop what’s coming, can’t stop from
growing old
Can’t stop what’s coming, no matter how tight we hold

I’ll See You In Your Dreams
Turns out it’s silly, to say our good-nights, I know that I’ll see you real soon
You’ll come to me gently, soft in my ears, ‘Cause I’ll see you in your dreams.
Sometimes we say things, we’re hard on ourselves,
Sometimes it’s kind of extreme, They fade like the day, as it falls into night,
And I’ll see you in your dreams
All of the problems, and dragons to slay, Let’s leave them behind in the world
We can start over, as we close our eyes, If we just give it a whirl
So dream we’re out dancing, under the stars, mingle among the moonbeams
Fear not my darling, I’ll be there right quick,
And I’ll see you in your dreams, I’ll see you in your dreams.
